Dear Colleagues and Friends:

Prof. Aaron Ciechanover, an internationally renowned scholar and an eminent scientific leader, is invited by the K.T. Wang Bioorganic Chemistry Foundation and Academia Sinica to visit Taiwan as one of the 2015 K.T. Wang Bioorganic Chemistry Lecturers and will give 2 lectures entitled “The Ubiquitin Proteolytic System: From Basic Mechanisms thru Human Diseases” and “The Revolution of Personalized Medicine: Are We Going to Cure All Diseases and at What Price?” on November 5th (Thursday) and 6th (Friday), respectively.  On November 5th, we will also have Dr. Jo Shen to give a lecture entitled “How to Start a Business and Thrive in the Global Marketplace?”  Lectures on November 5th will be delivered in the International Conference Hall, Humanities and Social Sciences Building, Academia Sinica.  On November 6th, Dr. Ciechanover’s lecture will be given in the Song-Pei Lecture Hall, Department of Chemistry, National Taiwan University. The lectures are expected to provide local researchers with invaluable inspiration.

Dr. Aaron Ciechanover is currently a Distinguished Research Professor in the Ruth and Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine and Research Institute at the Technion. He is an Israeli biologist and a recipient of the 2004 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with fellow Israeli Avram Hershko and Irwin Rose of the US for the discovery of ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation-a cellular system responsible for breaking down damaged proteins liable to harm cells and tissues.  Dr. Ciechanover is a member of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities, the Pontifical Academy of Sciences at the Vatican, and is a foreign associate of the United States National Academy of Sciences.

Dr. Jo Shen is an international pharmaceutical executive with more than 35 years of experience in the industry. Prior to her retirement, she was the President and CEO, Board Member, and co-founder of ScinoPharm Taiwan, Ltd, a leading process R&D and API manufacturing service provider to the global pharmaceutical industry.  Currently, she sits on the board of a number of industrial associations as well as biotech/pharma companies.

You are cordially invited to share the valuable insights of those distinguished scientists. Online registration for lectures on November 5th and 6th is required and available at http://www.bc.sinica.edu.tw/WangFoun/.  We are looking forward to seeing you in this lecture!
